Born and raised in Dayton, Andrew Mitakides loves all things about the Gem City. After graduating from Centerville High School he went on to attend Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a double major in Theater and Music. He has performed in many productions from Shakespearean theater to musicals, and, of course, comedies. These productions have taken him to many cities, including places like New York and Washington D.C.
Now, Mitakides is the host, creator, executive producer and a writer for Gem City Tonight, Dayton’s premier late-night show. “I have been amazingly fortunate to work with so many talented people. From the director to our writers, the whole crew, and everyone who makes this show possible,” Mitakides said while reflecting on the past episodes of season 1, “I truly have the best job with the best people.”
Aside from being the host of Gem City Tonight, Mitakides takes pride in his community and the work he does to give back to everyone. He is a volunteer firefighter and is active with Brothers Helping Brothers, an organization to help firefighters and first responders. He is also the regional president of the Dayton chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the co-chair for Dayton’s Out of Darkness Walk. “Any chance I get to help someone, I will do anything I can, especially if I can make them smile at the same time,” said Mitakides. “Helping people is what life is all about for me.”
Mitakides wants to thank all of his friends for their support, his family for pushing him, and a big special thank you to his wife, Alexis, and two furry Saint Bernards, Prince and Lola, for always being there for him, event after the curtain goes down.
